UPDATING LIVE FROM THE TRAXX FM STUDIO

This is the same logo from the previous post cept the “Z” from last time looked too much like “2″ so I had my good friend Ben (guy who also designed our banner up there) change it and voila! But to answer a comment by one of listeners - yes you can indeed send in your submissions if you have a Jazz Selecta logo you’d like us to share! Who knows, if we choose yours - you may just get something!! *hint hint* - Email me at maya@traxxfm.net

I want to thank the overwhelmingresponse we’ve been getting via email and the blog this past week…*Overwhelming to us is over 5! - We appreciate your kind words! We’ll be reading a few of them out tonight on the show…

Also on tonight’s show (depending on when you’re reading it) we’ll be featuring some FINNISH jazz. Thanks to Jarmo Savolainen for the compilation of Finnish Jazz..

One more thing, Matthew Olson from Greenville, South Carolina (USA) who contacted us 2 weeks ago about us reviewing his debut jazz CD has sent in his CD and we received it an hour ago, we are going to play a track off his album called “Snake Eyes”…. A full review to come on a future Jazz Selecta. To find out more about Mathew Olson you can go to www.mattolsonmusic.com

Whats this? An Update?

Hey guys, what do you think of this logo for Jazz Selecta? Comments will be greatly appreciated!

In other news, yes, it’s been a while since this blog has been updated. For one I was out sick last week on Jazz Selecta…but not to worry, will be back in full swing tonight!

I’d like to share this comment that was left in the last post (in case you missed it)

Greetings from California! Mualaikum Musalam

Tahniah! Congratulations! It is very exciting for me to be able to tell you that I have hear your program “Jazz Selecta” on short wave radio. What a great program of jazz music! I heard the following:

Frequency: 7295 kHz., shortwave
Date: Selasa/Tuesday, 7 Mac 2006
Time: 09:10 PM – 09:35 PM, Malaysian Standard Time
[13.10 UTC – 13.35 UTC]
Language: English

The music you play is great, as I especially enjoyed jazz. Do you ever play any Dave Brubeck music? He is one of my favorite jazz musicians.

Wish you continued success with “Jazz Selecta”.

Terima kasih.

Ron Howard
Monterey, California

Is this THE Ron Howard? It’s nice to know that we are getting feedback from around the world.

Speaking of around the world, I also got an email from someone in the US who’s an independent jazz musician and would like for us to review his CD on air! Hope to get it soon.

If you’re a jazz musician stumbling by and would like for us to feature your stuff on our show, you’re more than welcome to send it to us @:

One more thing, has anyone been able to live stream us online? Been getting a couple of complaints about that…

Hey guys! Week after week we’ve been blessed with having such fantastic guests on our show and this week tops the (already delicious cake). For you avid Jazz Selecta listeners (All two you - Eugene and Brian..ha ha just kidding) - Greg Lyons has already been on our show once before. As a matter of fact, you always hear his voice on our Jazz Selecta promo’s through out the day! Anyway, this Tuesday Greg Lyons will be in our studios again alongside Global Spirit.

Global Spirit is a Jazz Quintet - a very international one at that with members coming from four continents join to make music. Hence “Global”. Members of the band create a unique blend of America, European, African and Asian cultures.

Greg Lyons leads the band and you also have Finnish pianist/composer Jarmo Savolainen, who embraces contemporary US styles with a large dose of Scandivania. Jarmo spends much of his time in New York playing and recording with the cream of the contemporary jazz scene, and has also lately been touring frequently in Latin America.

Malaysia’s very own percussionist Lewis Pragasam is also part of this quintet. And for those of you familiar with his style, you’ll definitely hear the Indian classical tradition. He brings, and I quote, “an incredible arsenal of polyrhythmic dexterity that feeds and builds the group’s improvisations to a dramatic effect.”

You also have British trumpeter Damon Brown bringing diverse styling from reggae to free-jazz and Christy Smith - the pulse of the band - on bass. Christy hails from California but he also represents the continents of both America and Africa.

Though all members of the group have played together before, this will be the first time that the quintet meets as a whole.

When all five members of the quintet come together, it will definitely be quite a performance unlike any others.

Of course all of what you’ve read is a summary of what can be found here.

Should be an interesting show - so make a date with us (Jezza and Maya) and the rest of the world (Global Spirit) as we talk ‘all dat jazz’..

Jumping back to last weeks show - February 28th, 2006 - we had Fairuz Hussein in the studios but Jezza was nowhere in sight! Fairuz played my co-host that evening and we featured a couple of songs from her Anugerah album plus gave 3 copies away. She’s been having a good year so far. Her song - Yamano Ima (Shine On Love) was in the top 10 on this website under the World Music category and she’s also preparing for a tour of China mid this year. And as an added piece of trivia, Fairuz and her husband Zul listen to punk rock too! And I quote Fairuz, “Exene Cervenka is in the Original Sinners now..”
