Live from the Traxx FM studios…

Hey guys! Thanks for all your feedback on the show. I’ll be posting a couple on our “fan mail” section (yet to be up!)

Anyway, the first 2 hours and 15 minutes I was mending the panels all by my lonesome. Jez had some car troubles en route from Seremban but he’s in the studios now.

I took the courtesy of listing all the tracks I played from 10 p.m. onwards so if you’re interested, check back tomorrow for a new section called “playlists”.

By the way, we’re looking for some good ideas for jingles for our jazz show. If anyone has any ideas, email me at maya@traxxfm.net.. I was thinking a series of some sort. Like a skit. If you can produce the jingle for us, that’d be even better! :-)

Malaysia’s Version of Oprah Winfrey on Jazz Selecta?

…that’s right folks, if you were tuning in to last Tuesdays Jazz Selecta programme, we did mention Anita Sarawak coming into the studios for a chat on our show but it wasn’t 100% confirmed. Well Jezza called me up not too long ago to tell me yes it is confirmed. Anita Sarawak will be on Jazz Selecta, Tuesday, January 31st. Though the show starts at 9 p.m., she’ll probably be in only after the news at 10 p.m. And yes, we’ll probably be giving out her latest effort - the album is called Another Dimension and it’s a jazz covers album. So yeah, wouldn’t it be interesting to hear her take on jazz? Hmmmm.. if you have any questions for Anita Sarawak, feel free to email me maya@traxxfm.net and we’ll be sure to ask her your questions.

In the meantime…

Welcome to the New Year

First and foremost, we apologize for the lack of updates on this blog. We understand Eugene worked hard to get this blog up and going and the least we could do was keep it up-to-date. I guess with all the Christmas/New Year hype, we got carried away with other things.

Jazz Selecta updates: Well lets recap whats been happening with Jazz Selecta since our last post. Since our last guest of the year 2005 Mia Palencia, we’ve been honoured to have David Gomez in the studios for a little chat as our first guest in 2006! Don’t forget to check him out February 3rd at Sunway Lagoon Resort’s Avanti Henessey Jazz night. Look out for new material sometime mid-end of this year. Expect some great stuff inspired by Horace Silver. So if you’re a fan of that ‘hard-bop’ style, keep your ears open. Even if you’re not, support the local jazz scene!

Other than the usual jazz news, trivia and music on Jazz Selecta, nothing much has been happening. We did have a great Xmas Jazz show. Christmas is definetely a holiday with lots of jazz tunes. Even the pop artists jazz their songs up for Christmas!

Look forward to brand new Jazz Selecta and check here for updates!

For giggles, let me share with you a joke we shared on air during our Xmas show:

A guy walks into a pet store looking for a Christmas gift for his wife. The storekeeper said he knew exactly what would please her and took a little bird out of a cage. “This is Chet,” he said, “and Chet can sing Christmas carols,” Seeing the look of disbelief on the customer’s face, he proceeded to demonstrate.

“He needs warming up”, he said. Producing a cigarette lighter the storekeeper raised Chet’s left wing and waved the flame lightly under it. Immediately, Chet sang “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”. That’s fantastic!” said the man.

“And listen to this”, said the storekeeper, warming Chet’s other wing. Chet sang, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”.

“I’ll take him” said the man.

When he got home, he greeted his wife: “Honey, I can’t wait until Christmas to show you what I got you, this is fantastic”. He unwrapped Chet’s cage and showed the bird to his wife. “Now, watch this.” He raised Chet’s left wing and held him over a Christmas candle that was burning on the mantlepiece. Chet immediately began to sing, “Silent Night”. The wife was delighted. “And that’s not all, listen to this!” As Chet’s right wing was warmed over the flame, he sang, “Joy to the World”.

“Let me try it” cried the wife, seizing the bird. In her eagerness, she held Chet a little too close to the flame. Chet began to sing passionately, “Chet’s nuts roasting on an open fire”.

Blog updates: As you can see, we have added a number of links to international and local jazz artists. We’ve also signed up for LIFELOGGER to post up pictures related to the show. IE - guests who come in, random Jezza and Maya pictures, studio shots..etc..etc… Our Lifelogger is at: jazzselecta.lifelogger.com. The beauty of lifelogger is you can upload pictures straight from your handphone!! There has also been some changes in terms of “categories” - there is:

SHOW - What happened and what will be happening on the show
MUSINGS - Just random this and that’s
CONTESTS - Should we have any contests going on in our show, this is the category.
FAN MAIL - Yes - we’ve let our ego get to us!! No but really, we’ve received a couple e-mails from people and well with this section we can share it with the WORLD! You can send us fan mail to if you want! :-) maya@traxxfm.net This also applies to hate mail, suggestions and comments.
